Neuroblastoma, a malignant tumor that develops in the peripheral nervous system, is the most frequent extracranial solid cancer in young children. Its variability is extreme, ranging from spontaneous regression without treatment to rapidly fatal progression despite intensive chemotherapy.
Gain or loss of whole chromosomes (numerical alterations) is most often seen in localized tumors with a good prognosis.
